How We Communicate

communication office
For the 2023-24 school year the district is changing how we communicate with our TPS families. the bullet points below break down how we will be sending messages going forward.

  • For emergencies, which will require the immediate notification of parents, such as lockdowns/shelter-in-place and evacuation situations or an early dismissal after the school day has started; we will use every communication tool including notice via phone calls, text messages (if they have opted-in), and emails. Information will be posted to the district’s website, Twitter, and Facebook pages.
  • For school closings (before the school day i.e., the night before or the morning of) parents and guardians will receive phone calls, text messages (if they have opted-in), and emails. Information will be posted to the district’s website, Twitter, and Facebook pages.
  • For reminders, such as scheduled school closings, joint community events and save the date information, TPS will notify parents and guardians via email. In addition, the information will be posted on the website, and the district’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
  • All safety drills and lockdown/shelter-in-place notifications (messaging an all-clear or notification that one took place earlier in the day) will be notified via email.
  • To decrease the number of phone calls received by parents and guardians from the school district, families are encouraged to follow the district and their school’s social media pages and ensure their contact information is updated in PowerSchool.
  • Some events such as the Back to School Extravaganza and Parent Teacher Conferences/Back to School Nights may have communication sent via all channels. While the district wants to be mindful of how often we message our families, we also want to ensure that everyone has the most up-to-date information during this transitional period.

This is an ever-changing process and we understand that there are times when we will have to rethink various topics and how they are communicated. The overall goal is to be intentional and timely in our communication with our families.
